What Are Vinyl Graphics?

Vinyl graphics are adhesive-backed graphics cut or printed from vinyl film and applied to surfaces, including vehicles, windows, walls, floors, and equipment. They're one of the most versatile and cost-effective forms of visual communication available, and they're a staple of commercial signage for businesses of all sizes in Newfoundland.

Cut Vinyl vs. Printed Vinyl

Cut vinyl graphics are produced by running solid-colour vinyl film through a precision plotter that cuts the shape of your letters, logos, or designs. The excess vinyl is removed (a process called weeding), and the resulting graphic is applied to the surface. Cut vinyl is ideal for single-colour applications: lettering on a fleet vehicle, a business name on a storefront window, or text on a sign panel.

Printed vinyl (also called wide-format print) allows for full-colour graphics including photographs, gradients, and complex designs. We print on vinyl using UV-resistant inks, then typically apply a laminate over top to protect the printed surface from UV fading, abrasion, and weather. Printed vinyl is used for vehicles, window graphics, banners, wall murals, and anywhere a full-colour image is needed.

Storefront and Window Vinyl

Window vinyl can be used for business hours, promotional messaging, privacy screening, or full-colour decorative graphics. Perforated window vinyl is a popular option for vehicle rear windows and storefront windows: it allows people inside to see out, while displaying a full graphic to those outside. Frosted vinyl can create a privacy screen effect that mimics etched glass at a fraction of the cost.

How Long Does Vinyl Last?

Vinyl lifespan depends heavily on the material grade and the application environment. Quality cut vinyl on a protected interior surface can last 7 to 10 years. Exterior vinyl exposed to UV and weather typically lasts 5 to 7 years. Vehicle graphics in a tough environment like Newfoundland — with road salt, temperature extremes, and UV exposure — typically last 4 to 6 years. We specify the right material for each application and are transparent about expected longevity.
